ISUZU Motors South Africa is turning up the heat in the bakkie segment with the launch of the limited-edition 2025 D-MAX X-Rider Black, a bold and exclusive version of the popular X-Rider range. Known for its rugged capability, efficiency, and striking design, the X-Rider now takes exclusivity to a new level — with only 150 individually numbered units being built at ISUZU’s Struandale plant in Gqeberha for South Africa and selected African markets.
Each 2025 X-Rider Black is fitted with a special numbered plaque on the left inner fender, highlighting its rare status. As with the current X-Rider lineup, buyers can choose between three Double Cab variants: a six-speed manual or automatic in 4×2 configuration, or a 4×4 automatic for serious off-road capability. All models feature ISUZU’s reliable and fuel-efficient 1.9-litre Ddi turbodiesel engine producing 110 kW and 350 Nm.

“The X-Rider embodies our customers’ adventurous spirit and individuality, and the new X-Rider Black takes that even further,” says Kevin Fouché, Department Executive of Product Planning at ISUZU Motors South Africa. “With only 150 units available, this is a truly special addition to the D-MAX lineup.”
Exterior and Styling

Bold, Black, and Unmistakable
The X-Rider Black makes a dramatic visual statement with Onyx Black paintwork, a colour exclusive to this edition. The dark theme continues with 18-inch gloss black alloy wheels featuring red ISUZU lettering, a muscular tubular sports bar with a laser-cut red “X”, and Gun Metallic accents inspired by the flagship D-MAX V-Cross.
Dynamic patterned body decals, a black tailgate graphic outlined in silver, and red ISUZU branding on the grille further enhance the bakkie’s tough and sporty appeal. LED headlamps, LED fog lamps, black door handles, black side mirrors, and dark grey roof rails complete the premium look.

Interior and Tech
Inside, the X-Rider Black matches its bold exterior with a black and red interior theme. Leather seats feature red contrast stitching and embroidered “X” logos, while red accents on the dashboard, door handles, and leather steering wheel add a sporty touch.
Other premium details include red stitching on the gear shift boot and handbrake, X-Rider floor mats, and piano black trim finishes.
Standard tech and convenience features include:
• Cruise control
• 7-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• Six-speaker audio system and Wi-Fi compatibility
• Rear USB port, park assist, and rear-view camera

Safety
The X-Rider Black comes equipped with a full suite of safety features, including ESC with Traction Control, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, Trailer Sway Control, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control (on 4×4 models), and seven airbags, including a driver’s knee airbag.
Powertrain and Performance
Powered by ISUZU’s proven 1.9 Ddi turbodiesel engine, the X-Rider Black delivers impressive real-world efficiency. The same engine achieved 5.58 l/100 km over a 1,452 km trip during the 2023 ISUZU One Tank Challenge. Buyers can choose from manual or automatic 4×2 models or a 4×4 automatic with shift-on-the-fly engagement.

The X-Rider Black uses General Grabber AT3 all-terrain tyres and boasts an 800 mm wading depth. A factory-fitted towbar and a 2.1-ton towing capacity make it ready for work or adventure.
