The C10 enters the local market at a time when EV adoption is growing, but charging infrastructure in South Africa still lags behind. Backed by Stellantis, Leapmotor aims to solve that problem with a smart hybrid approach that feels closer to a full EV than a traditional plug-in.

Range Extender EV Driving Without Range Anxiety
The biggest talking point is the range extender system. While the C10 has a 1.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine under the hood, it doesn’t drive the wheels. Instead, it works as a generator to recharge the battery. The result? A claimed total driving range of up to 970km.
In everyday terms, this means you can drive it like a full EV most of the time, you’re not dependent on a charging station, and long-distance trips become far more realistic in South Africa. It’s a practical middle ground between electric mobility and convenience.
Design and Interior
The Leapmotor C10 embraces a clean, minimalist EV design. On the outside, it features a sleek, sculpted body with a closed-off front end, a full-width LED light bar, and bold 20-inch alloy wheels that give it a strong road presence.
Inside, the C10 keeps things clean and modern, with a minimalist dashboard, premium-feel materials, and a panoramic roof that makes the cabin feel open and spacious. Rear legroom is generous too, making it a practical option for families or longer trips.
Tech is a big focus, with a large central touchscreen controlling most functions and a sleek, easy-to-use interface. However, the lack of wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and the reliance on touch controls for basic features may not suit everyone.
The Drive
On the road, the C10 is all about comfort. It delivers a smooth, quiet ride, especially in electric mode, making it ideal for daily driving and long-distance cruising, while key safety features add extra peace of mind.
Pricing & Afttersale
The Leapmotor C10 starts at around R759,900, with the top-spec model priced closer to R799,900. And with that, you get a 5-year / 100,000km warranty as well as a 5-year / 100,000 km Service plan.
Verdict
The Leapmotor C10 makes a strong case for itself in South Africa’s evolving EV market. It’s not perfect, especially when it comes to infotainment and some tech features, but it does solve one of the biggest concerns buyers have about driving EVs: range anxiety.
