The Ford Ranger Raptor just got tougher. Thanks to SVI Engineering, South Africa’s leading armour specialists, the high-performance bakkie is now available with a Ford-approved B6 discreet armouring package. This makes it the first Ranger Raptor in the country to offer factory-backed assault rifle protection while still keeping its warranty and service plan.
From Handguns to Assault Rifles
Previously, the Ranger Raptor was only available with B4 armour, which protects against handguns. The challenge was that the Raptor’s unique FOX suspension setup reduced payload capacity, making it unsuitable for heavier armour.
SVI worked closely with Ford and FOX engineers to solve this by safely upgrading the Raptor’s gross vehicle mass (GVM). The GVM has increased from 3 130 kg to 3 499 kg, boosting payload from 670 kg to 1 039 kg. Best of all, drivers can still use a standard Code B licence.
What the B6 Armour Includes ?
The new B6 discreet package gives the Raptor 360-degree protection against assault rifles like the AK47, R1, and R5. Key upgrades include:
• 38 mm curved armoured glass built to OEM standards
• High-grade steel plates for the doors, pillars, firewall, and footwells
• Extra shielding for critical parts like the battery and ABS unit
• Smart overlapping of materials to remove weak spots
Despite the extra weight, the Raptor’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine (292 kW / 583 Nm) has more than enough muscle to carry the load.
Fully Ford-Approved
This package comes with full Ford backing under the Ford Pro Convertor (FPC) programme. That means the vehicle’s warranty, service plan, and finance options remain in place. Buyers can even finance both the bakkie and armour package through Ford Credit at any Blue Oval dealership in South Africa.
