SVI Engineering, a leading armoured product manufacturer, announces the availability of a BMW-approved protection package for the Rosslyn-built BMW X3 M40i in South Africa. This marks BMW AG’s first armouring certification on the African continent.
The armoured X3 M40i meets NIJ Level IIIA ballistic resistance standards, offering protection against handguns up to .44 Magnum. It underwent rigorous ballistic and durability testing in South Africa, maintaining the manufacturer’s warranty and maintenance plan.
BMW AG engineer Dr Daniel Huber led the certification process, ensuring the vehicle’s ability to withstand attacks from various angles.
Certified by Beschussamt Munich, the armoured X3 underwent over 400 shots and rigorous durability testing, making it the only vehicle in South Africa officially tested to NIJ Level IIIA standards.
The protection package includes an armoured passenger cell with sealed joints and specially developed ballistic glass. Despite its armouring, the X3 maintains dynamic driving characteristics and nearly identical appearance to the standard model.
Customers can order the armoured X3 M40i directly from any BMW dealership nationwide, with the conversion carried out at SVI Engineering’s facility in Bashewa according to BMW Group’s strict production standards.
How long will it take to arm the BMW X3 after purchasing it?
The project build time for the armouring conversion is estimated to be around three months. The pricing for the X3 M40i armouring package is available at R879,800 (excluding VAT and base vehicle cost).
Customers can rest assured knowing that the X3’s standard warranty and maintenance plan will still be valid after the armouring conversion. Additionally, SVI offers an extra one-year/50,000 km warranty on the armouring work to provide peace of mind for the vehicle owner.
