Not long ago, we spent time testing the new Honda Fit. Popularly known as the Honda Jazz, this newcomer has received a significant makeover, beyond just the name, both in terms of cosmetics and mechanics.
To align with its new youthful name, the Fit boasts a more modern and quirky look with a rounded facia, which some may not quite fancy, but I can give it a pass.
LED headlights and taillights are now standard across the entire range. To enhance its styling, the Honda Fit comes equipped with 15-inch wheels on the entry-level Comfort, and steps up to 16 inches for the Elegance and Hybrid variants.
Interior and Tech
Inside, the cabin feels well-appointed with a good mix of leather and plastic trims throughout, exuding quality and durability.
The overall NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) levels of the cabin seem quite good, with a quiet ambiance that complements its plush and comfortable ride quality. There’s a fair amount of body roll when cornering at speed.
A 9-inch infotainment system is standard, featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a digital instrument cluster. Additionally, you get two USB Type-A ports at the front across the entire range. Opting for the top-tier Elegance variant also includes a wireless charging pad.
If you opt for the latter, you can enjoy additional features such as:
– 2 USB-C ports at the rear
– Wireless charging
– Heated front seats
– 7-inch instrument cluster
– Lane-keep assist, and more
Powertrain and performance:
Powering the Honda Fit is a mild-hybrid 1.5L petrol engine with 90 kW and 253 Nm of torque, exclusively paired with a CVT transmission. The addition of its electric system helps the Fit cruise off the engine power at speeds just under 100 km/h, utilizing the engine to charge the battery, resulting in frugal fuel consumption. During our tests, we averaged 4.2L/100 km, making it a budget-friendly daily driver. I believe you could achieve the claimed 3.7L if you leave it in Eco mode.
Verdict
With the Fit e:HEV priced at R544,900, that’s about R128,400 more than the top-tier non-hybrid Elegance variant.
While the Hybrid variant of the Fit represents good value, thanks to its wide array of features covering style, comfort, practicality, and efficiency, we can’t help but be concerned about the pricing, as it’s on the steeper side.
This Honda Fit could fit into your lifestyle if you’re looking to save some cash on fuel while driving something stylish and quirky at the same time.
