Last week, we joined Suzuki South Africa in the City of Gold for the launch of the all-new, fourth-generation Suzuki Dzire.
The budget-friendly sedan has been completely refreshed, now featuring a sleek new design, upgraded tech, and a brand-new powertrain, all starting from just R224,900.
What’s new?
The new Dzire is built on the same foundation as the fourth-generation Swift, using Suzuki’s new ‘HEARTECT’ platform. This design makes the car lightweight and sturdy, contributing to a smooth and enjoyable driving experience.
Exterior and Design
On the outside, the Dzire boasts a new and more stylish design. Squared-off and wider with a black out grille on the GA trim, while the top derivative GL+ gets a piano black trim with chrome bezel accent.
From the side, the Dzire has an elegant appearance with a sloped windscreen, electric folding mirrors, a shark-fin antenna, and a bold C-pillar that leads to a compact boot and T-shaped LED taillights (connected by a chrome strip on the GL+). The GA models come with 14-inch steel wheels, while the GL+ rides on stylish 15-inch black alloys.
It also comes in seven exterior paint hues:
Alluring Blue Pearl Metallic, Gallant Red Pearl Metallic, Nutmeg Brown Pearl Metallic, Arctic White Pearl, Splendid Silver Pearl Metallic, Magma Gray Metallic, and Bluish Black Pearl.
interior, Practicality, and tech
The GL+ model offers additional creature comforts, including cruise control, a multifunction steering wheel, a 7-inch audio display system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a reverse camera, a front Type-A USB port, and hands-free phone control.
Although the interior is comfortable and practical, we are not particularly fond of the beige and black color scheme, as the beige portions can be challenging to clean and are prone to staining easily.
While Suzuki claims that the Dzire can comfortably accommodate five passengers, we did not have the opportunity to test this thoroughly. However, the rear passenger space features a center armrest with built-in cup holders, directional air vents, and two USB ports (Type-A and Type-C).
Safety
In terms of safety, the Suzuki Dzire offers class-leading airbag coverage, featuring six airbags as standard across the entire range. Other safety features include ABS, ESP, EBD, and ISOFIX child seat anchorage points.

Powertrain and Drive
The fourth-generation Suzuki Dzire now has a 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine borrowed from the best-selling budget car, Suzuki Swift. This power plant has proven reliable and fuel-efficient, although its power figure is 60 kW and 112 Nm of torque. Like the Suzuki Swift, the new Suzuki Dzire comes with either the 5-speed manual or CVT transmission.
