Mitsubishi South Africa has officially announced the arrival of its new seven-seater family SUV named Destinator, which is set to launch in the first half of 2026.
Positioned in the compact SUV segment, the seven-seater is designed to combine family practicality, modern technology and Mitsubishi’s established reputation for reliability.
Globally unveiled in 2025, the Destinator has been engineered specifically for emerging markets including Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa.
Mitsubishi states that their focus is clear: deliver strong value for money without compromising on quality, space or safety.
The production of the Mitsubishi Destinator is taking place at Mitsubishi’s Indonesian manufacturing plant, which is also where models such as the Outlander Sport and Xpander are built. This facility plays a key role in the brand’s strategy for global emerging markets.
The Destinator blends MPV practicality with SUV styling, offering a versatile seven-seat layout across three rows. The second row features a 40:20:40 split configuration, while the third row folds in a 50:50 configuration.
In addition, 25 storage compartments are integrated throughout the cabin, enhancing expanding the storage capacity even further.
Powertrain
Powering the Mitsubishi Destinator is a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 120kW and 250Nm of torque, driving the front wheels via a (CVT) transmission.
The Destinator features 5-driving modes which allows versatile driving capabilities in different terrains and conditions. Along the five driving modes, the Destinator boasts an active Yaw Control feature, incorporated to enhance stability and traction across varying road surfaces and weather conditions. This system actively manages torque distribution to improve handling.
Interior Technology and Comfort Features
Inside, the Mitsubishi Destinator features an interestingly well equipped cabin boasting an Eight-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch infotainment display, paired with a Yamaha premium audio system. Other premium features include:

Safety
When it comes to safety, the Destinator comes equipped with both active and passive driver assistance systems, from ABS, ESP, EBD, to Lane keep assist, blind monitoring systems and more…
It also comes equipped with advanced ADAS technologies and six airbags.
In 2025, during the ASEAN NCAP safety assessment, the Destinator achieved a maximum five-star rating which definitely makes it stand out amongst its rivals.
Pricing and Availability
An exclusive pre-launch campaign will begin in March 2026. The first 20 customers to secure the Mitsubishi Destinator will qualify for a special purchase price and a mystery reward package.
Local specifications, final model range details and official pricing for South Africa will be announced closer to the March 2026 launch date.
