Last week, we joined Renault South Africa at the launch of their new facelifted compact SUV, Kiger. Refreshed with a new exterior look and a bit of interior glow-up to keep up with Renault’s latest design language.
The most noticeable changes are found at the front. The Kiger now sports a redesigned bonnet, a new front bumper with a revised grille, and updated LED lighting. Renault has also added a few sharper character lines that give the SUV a more youthful and stylish presence on the road.

Perhaps the biggest surprise is the pricing. The updated Kiger comes in at R30,000 less than the outgoing model, now starting at just R219,999, making it the most affordable compact SUV currently on the market.
At the moment, the new Kiger is only available with a Naturally Aspirated 3-cylinder engine that makes 52kW & 96Nm, available in both 5-speed Manual and Automated manual transmission. During the launch, we sampled the manual variant, and in our view, it extracts the most performance from this modest engine setup.

In this video, we take an in-depth look at the updated Kiger’s 52kW / 96Nm performance, its real-world comfort, drive quality, and the upgrades Renault introduced for 2025.
We also discuss whether the new model offers better value for money in South Africa, especially for buyers comparing it to alternatives like the Renault Kwid.
