Toyota South Africa just revealed their new collaboration with The auto manufacturer Suzuki
on their new project The “Toyota Starlet”. The new compact hatch is set to replace the existing Toyota Etios.
Exterior
The Toyota Starlet is a spacious and fun four door compact hatchback which shares the same platform design/body and interior with the Suzuki Baleno but having a slight different wheel and grille design.
The Starlet has a sleek silhouette and rides on standard 15-inch steel wheels.
Standard paint offered are : Mystic Pearl White, Ice Silver, Torch Red, Iron Grey Metallic and Urban Blue.
Interior
The starlet comes packed with a number of standard features such as :
Electric power steering (EPS) manual tilt adjustable with audio/phone mounted controls , electric powered windows all around, manual climate control.
Seating capacity of 5 with 2 in front and 3 at the back, child seat lock at the back, 12V power Socket both at the front and rear, 6 speakers, 1 USB charging port, Bluetooth.
Variants and Additional Features
Offered in 3 different variants, the standard Xi , Mid-class Xs and the top-class Xr.
The Xs carries all the standard features but upgrades to a 16-inch alloy wheels.
As for the Xr additional LED headlights with daytime running lights (DRLs), Multi function touchscreen infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
A push start button, leather wrapped-steering wheel with cruise control, rear parking sensors with reversing camera, chrome door handles, chrome belt line finishes with roof spoiler and rear privacy glass.
Powertrain
The new Toyota Starlet is powered by a 1.4 Liter Four Cylinder (inline 4) Petrol engine, delivering 68 kW (91 Hp) at 6000 rpm coupled with either a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed Manual transmission pushing the power trough the front wheel (FWD) with a maximum torque of 130 Nm at 4200 rpm.
The starlet has a manageable fuel consumption of 5.1 L / 100km
Safety
When it comes to safety the Starlet come equipped with ABS, EBD, brake assist system and Stability control.
Driver and passenger airbags for the Xi and Xs model, the Xr model gets up to 6 airbags.
Anti-Theft System, Immobiliser Alarm, Centre Rear Seatbelt, Standard 3-Point
Child Lock with Child Restraint System (ISOFIX).
