With fuel prices reaching record highs, the search for the perfect fuel-efficient daily driver is officially on. The Honda Fit Hybrid (e: HEV), the successor to the legendary Honda Jazz, has moved from being a “sensible choice” to an absolute necessity for the budget-conscious commuter.
In our latest review, we took this compact hatchback to the streets to see if it lives up to the hype. Here is why the new Fit Hybrid just makes sense in these tough times.

Unmatched Fuel Efficiency: 900km+ on a Single Tank
The headline feature of the new Fit is its hybrid powertrain. By pairing a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine with a 10 kWh electric motor, it delivers a combined 90 kW and 253 Nm of torque.
While those numbers might look modest on a spec sheet, the real-world performance tells a different story. During our testing, we averaged between 4.5 and 4.6 L/100km. With a fuel tank under 50 liters, you are looking at a massive range of 900 to 950 km if you drive conservatively.
Tech-savvy Interior.
The Honda Fit’s interior looks and feels very premium, with strong and long-lasting materials used throughout. It boasts a wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a dedicated wireless charging pad in the top spec derivative.
The Fit packs both passive and advanced driver assistance tech, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and forward collision warning.
Practically
One of Honda’s best-kept secrets remains a highlight: the Magic Seats. These allow the rear seats to fold almost completely flat, expanding the standard 309L boot space into a cavernous storage area for larger items.
The Verdict:
While the South African market is currently flooded with high-feature rivals from Chinese manufacturers, Honda still holds a major trump card: resale value. Historically, Honda vehicles maintain their worth exceptionally well.
When you combine that with the outstanding fuel economy, the total cost of ownership is hard to beat, even if the initial pricing is a bit on the steeper side.
If you need a predictable, comfortable, and incredibly frugal daily driver, the new Honda Fit Hybrid fits the lifestyle perfectly.
