They are here to stay. BMW officially unveiled the new G80 M3 Sedan and G82 M4 Coupé and yes, the big vertical grille is real. Controversial but let us not get into it for a moment.
Exterior
Obviously, the new front end on both the M3 and M4 receives the huge vertical kidney grilles for optimum cooling of the engine, full -LED headlights with Laserlight available as an option. wider and sleek wheel arches, aggressive gloss-black side skirt.
The new M3 and M4 get a bit wider and longer than the previous models M3 (0,4 inch wider and 4.6 inches longer) & M4 M3 (0,7 inch wider and 4.6 inches longer). Both come with standard carbon-fiber roof with aerodynamically optimized fins, plus rear spoiler and quad M tailpipe.
New, exclusive exterior paint finishes. M Carbon exterior package and BMW M Performance Parts available as options.
The M3 and M4 ride on standard Forged M light-alloy wheels – front: 18-inch, rear 19-inch, and for the competition models with M xDrive – front: 19-inch, rear 20-inch.
Interior
Both the M3 and M4 get a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display with the latest iDrive 7.0 operating system and standard features such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and navigation. Head-up display and BMW personal voice assistant available as option.

M mode button integrated on the steering wheel for driving setup selection for the engine, suspension, braking, and steering system. A specific M button is integrated into the center console that lets the user select Drive mode options for the engine including, Efficient, Sport, and Sport Plus.
New Merino M sport leather seats as standard with various features and colours like Yas Marina Blue + black, Silverstone + black, and Kyalami Orange + black. New M Carbon bucket seats with structure-based design available as an option.
Special M Sound button to electrically controlled flaps inside the exhaust system. Carbon fiber trims are optional.
Powertrains and Performance
The new BMW G80 M3 sedan and G82 M4 coupé are both powered by the newly developed S58 3.0 Litre Twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder petrol engine. BMW claims that it is a more advanced and higher reving engine based on the B58 engine found in the BMW F97 X3 M and F98 X4 M.
The M3 Sedan and M4 Coupé engines have a power output of 353kW (480 hp) mated to a six-speed manual transmission with auto rev-match making 550 Nm of torque, launching from 0-100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds with a fuel consumption of 10.8 L/100 km.
As for the Competition models, the M3 and M4 get a power upgrade of 375 kW (510 hp) now coupled with an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic delivering 650 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and 10.2 L/100 km of fuel consumption.
Available in Rear-wheel drive and M xDrive all-wheel-drive, linked to an M differential with rear-wheel-biased setup, three selectable modes available: 4WD, 4WD Sport, and 2WD.
ROAD and SPORT settings are available as standard; additional TRACK mode for track driving added with the optional M Drive Professional (including M Drift Analyser, M Laptimer and M Traction Control).
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including M Dynamic Mode and ten stages adjustable M Traction with wheel spin limitation.
A newer rigid and stiffer chassis with adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers and M Servotronic steering with variable ratio are fitted as standard.
Safety and Driving Aids
The M3 and M4 receive quite a big driver assistance systems package such as:
Park Distance Control, Front Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Speed Limit Info fitted as standard. Options include Driving Assistant Professional with Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Active Navigation, Emergency Lane Assistant, Parking Assistant with Reversing Assistant, BMW Drive Recorder and BMW Head-Up Display with M-specific displays.
